Obituary

Montpelier, VT William Louis "Bill" Meyer, 75, of George Street passed away suddenly Wednesday, March 23, 2011 while hiking in the Worcester Woods. He was born in Peekskill, NY on October 18, 1935, the son of Gustav and Mabel (Dale) Meyer. He attended schools in Peekskill, New York and received his GED in 1957. He enlisted in the United States Army in October of 1958 and was later honorably discharged in 1963. On October 27, 1956, he married his wife of 54 years, Esther McGowan in Cambridge, VT. He worked for the Vermont Department of Transportation Agency at the Materials & Research Lab as a Concrete Technician. His work included inspecting the integrity of concrete bridges on Vermont highways. He retired from the State in 1996 after 36 years of service. He was Past Master of the Aurora Lodge of Montpelier, 33rd degree Scottish Rites, York Rites, and Past Grand Patron of the Eastern Star State of Vermont. Bill enjoyed Fishing, Hunting, spending time with his Grandchildren, and his many trips to Branson and Pigeon Forge. Survivors include his wife Esther Meyer of Montpelier; three sons, Benton L. Meyer of Sana'a,Yemen (Stephanie) of Atlantic Beach, FL , Bernard W. Meyer (Shin-Ae) of Amarillo, TX, and Bret S. Meyer (Denise) of Barre Town; three grandchildren, Nicole Meyer & Alyssa Meyer of Barre Town, and Matthew Meyer of Atlantic Beach, FL.; two sisters, Bertha Meyer and Mabel Bobolia of Santa Barbara, CA; a brother, John Meyer of Van Courtlandt, NY. He was predeceased by a sister, Marian Louis and a brother, Frederick Meyer. At Bill's wishes there will be no calling hours. A Private Memorial service and Masonic/Eastern Star services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 312 Hurricane Ln, Williston, VT 05495, or the Vermont Police K9 Association, www.vtk9.com.
