Obituary

William "Bill" Brown died on Sunday, September 22nd at Darthmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center of natural causes. He was born on March 15th, 1941 in Colchester, VT to Wilbur Brown and Katherine Margaret (Moulton) Brown. He attended Roxbury School and spent many years working in the granite industry as well as serving in the Army National Guard. He married Ramona (McQueen) Brown on December 15th, 1960. Together they raised three daughters in their home in Northfield, VT. They later lived in Williamstown, VT until Ramonas death in 2010. During this time Bill worked in the granite sheds in Barre and Northfield. He even briefly had his own polishing business "Bills Polishing" in Barre. After Bill retired he worked for Green Mountain Florist Supply delivering flowers. Although he was not deployed, he served in the US Army during the Vietnam era and later in the Vermont Army National Guard. He remained a proud member of the American Legion- Post 10 in Barre- until his death and was also an active member of the American Legion Riders, a group founded by his daughter, Penny. He was an active member of the Canadian Club. Bill enjoyed deer hunting and camping. He also loved fishing with his wife Ramona, as he stated: "she always made him laugh". Bill was very proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren he loved to watch them play and laugh. Bill was a very social man and was known and loved by many. He will be fondly remembered by his family: daughter Jeannie Brown of Barre, VT, her partner Larry Beede, and her children, Angela Stadelmeyer and Jessica Alix, both of New York; daughter, Penny Brown of Barre, VT and her children, Crystal Martin of Williamstown, VT, and Mark Martin Jr, of Northfield, VT; and daughter, Janice Brown of East Montpelier, her partner, Barry Rufenacht, and her son, Shawn Moody, currently of Eagle River, Alaska; his partner Jane Blanchard; his siblings: brother, Robert Brown of Ware, MA, and sister, Shirley Cook of Hannibal, NY; and his nieces, nephews and other family. Sadly, his grandson, William "Billy" Moody died in 2015. There will be a memorial service at Trinity United Methodist Church in Montpelier, VT on Tuesday October 1st, beginning at 1:00 pm followed by a burial in Waterbury Center Cemetery next to his wife. The American Legion Riders will lead the procession to the cemetery.
