Wilbur Louis Freeman, 88, of Weston's Trailer Park died on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on February 15, 1925 in Montpelier, VT, the son of Donald and Eleanor (Currier) Freeman.
While attending St. Michael's High School in 1944, Wilbur enlisted in the United States Army and served with the 142nd Infantry Regt and was subsequently awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received during combat action in southern France. He was honorably discharged on May 30, 1945.
He was employed by the the Barre-Montpelier Railroad from 1945, working in a number of positions, until his retirement in 1983. After his retirement from full-time employment, he worked as a part-time delivery driver for Bond Auto Parts, Fisher and S&L Auto parts.
On June 26, 1948 he married Dorothy Farnham at St. Augustine's church. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Dot Freeman of Berlin; one son, Robert Freeman and wife Teresa of Barre; three daughters, Susan and husband Greg Boyd of Northfield, Carol and husband Terry Edwards of Roxbury, and Jayne and husband Richard Hall of Barre; a sister, Genevieve Potter of White River Junction; 8 grandchildren, Shara Buffington of Enfield, NH, Nathan Donahue of Roxbury, VT, Jeremy Hall of Middle Haddam, CT, Joshua Hall of Montpelier, Sarah Hall of Washington, VT, Christopher Grandfield of Waitsfield, VT, Adam Freeman of Lebanon, NH, and Kelli Freeman of New Boston, NH and 13 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Katherine "Kitty" Collins and his twin brother, William Freeman.
He enjoyed camping with his family, playing cribbage, and his beloved New York Yankees. He was always eager to spend time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In later years after he no longer was able to drive, he enjoyed riding around the Vermont countryside with his family.
Mr. Freeman was a member of St. Augustine's church and the VFW Post 792.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 30 at 11:00 AM at Guare and Sons Funeral Home.
