Obituary

Barre, VT Wendell Victor Shields, Jr, 52, of 89 Country Way Barre, died Monday, March 24, 2008 at the Central Vermont Medical Center. He was born on June 27, 1955 in Fort Collins, Colorado, the son of Wendell V. and Ruby (Howerton) Shields. He graduated from Wind River High School in Morton, Wyoming in 1974. He then enlisted in the United States Army, worked with the Military Police and was discharged in 1976. He began his working career with the USDA, which required him to travel across the country as a farm inspector. He then worked for a time as the manager of the Cumberland Farms in Montpelier. Most recently he was a long distant truck driver, driving for various trucking companies, finally retiring in 1998. On July 16, 1988, he married Ginger George in Montpelier. Wendell enjoyed watching football, especially the Denver Broncos. He also had an interest in the Barre Youth Football League and would often go see games played by the kids that he knew. Above all else was his family and especially his grandchildren. Watching his grandchildren grow will always be cherished by him. His church was also important to him. He and his family were members of the New Life Assembly of God in Barre, but now attend the Faith Assembly of God in Bethel, VT. Survivors include his wife Ginger of Barre; his parents, Wendell V. Shields, Sr. and Ruby Shields of Lander, Wyoming; step daughter, Darci Pelkey of Gilford, NH; grandchildren, Natasha Tillotson, Lyle Tillotson; Kelsey Tillotson, Tim Landry, Jr., Stephanie Landry, Teka-Marie Phillips, Lehana Guyette, Candi Guyette, Amy Guyette, and Amber Guyette; and his sister, Stephanie Wright of Vancouver, Washington.as well as many aunts, uncles. He also has two nephews Issac and Joshua Manning along with a very close cousin Teri Jermsted of Alpine Wyoming He was predeceased by his step daughter; Paula Sicely in 2003; and his sister Cherie Meyer in 2004. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at the Faith Assembly of God Church in Bethel, VT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Websterville Baptist Christian School, P.O. Box 1, Websterville, VT, 05678, or to the Faith Assembly of God, General Fund, P.O. Box 382, Bethel, VT 05032.
