Wayne J. Prevost, Sr., 93, of Witt Place in Montpelier died on Monday, April 17th at his home with his family by his side.
He was born on November 25, 1923, the son of Winslow and Signa (Pratt) Prevost. He attended St. Michael's Graded School and High School, graduating in 1942.
On March 24, 1943, Wayne enlisted into the United States Army and served during World War II in England, Normandy, Northern France, and Central Europe as a heavy machine gunner until his honorable discharge in December 1945.
On July 2, 1946, he married Gertrude Sweeney at St. Augustine's Church. In 2016, they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
Wayne was a member of the American Legion Post 3, VFW post 792, Knights of Columbus, and St. Augustine's church. He enjoyed Deep Sea Fishing, playing cribbage with his friends and family and watching the Red Sox.
Survivors include his daughters; Donna Collette of Punta Gorda, FL, Pam Davis of Montpelier, Diane Belchamber of Georgia, Debra Wilder of Berlin, and Stephanie Fuller of Montpelier; sons, Wayne Prevost, Jr. of Berlin, Michael Prevost of Montpelier, Paul Prevost of Berlin, VT, Thomas Prevost of E. Barre, VT and Joseph Prevost of Berlin; 23 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Peter Prevost; granddaughters, Michele and Brooke and grandson Noah Prevost; as well as his siblings.
There will be no calling hours. A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 am on Friday, April 21, 2017 at St. Augustine's Catholic Church. Committal prayers and military honors will be held at a later date at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph, VT
