Montpelier, VT Walter "Larry" Nissen, 83, of Pioneer Apartments died on Friday, March 31, 2017 at the Berlin Health & Rehab Center. He was born on October 20, 1933 in Barre, VT, the son of George and Vieno (Toikkenen) Nisen. He attended schools in Rhode Island. Larry lived in Worcester Massachusetts from 1962 and moved back to Vermont in the mid 1970's. Larry worked primarily as a school bus driver for the Barre City School system. He retired in 1995. On April 10, 1979, he married Evelyn Newcomb in Montpelier, VT. Together they enjoyed 38 years of marriage. Larry enjoyed playing cribbage, fishing 7 puzzles early in the morning. Mostly he enjoyed playing his guitar, writing and recording music. Many of his friends and family will miss his beautiful singing voice and guitar serenades. Survivors include his wife Evelyn Nissen of Montpelier; daughters, JoAnn LaForte of Spencer, MA, and Susan Bryant of St. Petersburg, FL; ten grandchildren and several great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers George and Rudolf. Committal services will be held in the spring at the Berlin Corners Cemetery.
