Wallace Vincent Hood "Wally"

Cabot, VT

It is with great sadness that the family of Wallace "Wally" V. Hood announces his passing. Wally took his final exit from the highway of life on Monday, May 20th, 2024 with his daughter Valerie by his side.

Wally was born in Groton, VT on April 12, 1927, to Eda (Bowles) and Cleveland Hood.

He attended school in Groton, VT until being drafted into the United States Army in 1945 during WWII.

Wally married Rachel Josephine Goodall from East Montpelier on July 25, 1959. They made their home in Southington, CT.

Wally had a long career with PW&A and retired after 31 years of loyal employment. Wally began his retirement in 1983 at the age of 55 when he moved back to VT. Wally retired 3 more times as he kept busy working in construction, siding, and farming.

Wally was an avid reader, he always signed and dated books when he finished reading them. Wally had an amazing memory, he enjoyed sharing old stories, and he named all 35 of his brand-new cars over the years. Wally had a quick wit about him and a sharp sense of humor. He loved traveling with his wife Rachel, and they took several trips across the country. They traveled to all 48 states, Rachel wouldn't fly or travel by water so they missed Alaska and Hawaii. Wally and Rachel also traveled all over Canada.

Wally is survived by his beloved daughter Valerie Jankoski and husband Jim of Bristol, CT. His two cherished grandchildren Tyler Jankoski of Burlington, VT, and Justin Jankoski of Bristol, CT. His sibling Don Hood of Ocala, FL as well as many dear family, friends, and neighbors.

Wally was predeceased by his beloved wife Rachel Josephine Hood to which they were married for 63 amazing years.  He is also predeceased by his two siblings Kermit and Faustina, sister-in-law Patricia Hood, brother-in-laws James Goodall, and Stanley Fowler, and several nieces and nephews.

Wally's family would like to sincerely thank all of his caregivers who supported him over the last several months.

Calling hours for Wallace "Wally" Hood will be Thursday, May 23, 2024, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Guare and Sons Funeral Home 30 School Street Montpelier, VT. Funeral services for Wally will be Friday, May 24, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Guare and Sons Funeral Home, followed by committal services at Doty Cemetery in East Montpelier, VT.
