Virginia K. Steward, 102, formerly of Heaton Woods and most recently of Woodridge Nursing Home died on Sunday, January 29, 2012 surrounded by her family.
She was born on October 8, 1909 in Junction, IL, the daughter of Moses M. and Jennie (Mitchell) Kanady.
She graduated from Equality High School in Equality, IL in 1927. She attended Nurse's training at the Dixon State School in Dixon, IL.
On April 26, 1930, she married Glenn Boyd Steward in Princeton, IL. Mr. Steward predeceased her on October 20, 1962.
Virginia raised her family in Dixon, IL, and then worked at KSB Hospital in Dixon for a number of years. In order to be close to her daughter Sabra, she moved to New England in 1975. Her sister, Vivian Spence, joined her after retirement, and they lived in a beautiful old house on Main St in Montpelier, VT for many years. Virginia kept busy with her extended family and as a member of the congregation of Christ Episcopal Church.
She was a long time resident of Heaton Woods and enjoyed participating in the activities there. She most recently resided at Woodridge Nursing Home, where she had wonderful caregivers and shared many laughs.
Survivors include her daughter, Sabra Holm and her husband Dr. J. Lorimer Holm of Berlin, VT; grandchildren, Dr. Kristin Holm and her husband Gary Smith of Winslow, ME, Erika Holm of Middlesex, VT, Peter Holm and his wife Monica Callan of Waterbury Center, and Bronwyn Miller and her husband Kellan of IL; great-grandchildren Erik Pendleton, Michael Pendleton, Silas Dowen, Sara Smith, Evan Smith, Drew Smith, Regan Smith, Adelaide Rooney, Siobhan Rooney, Nancy Sue Miller, and Natania Miller as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her children Jacqueline Steward and Robert Steward; a grandchild, Stephanie Steward; and her siblings, Vivian Spence, Mitchell Kanady, and Moses Kanady Jr.
There will be no local services. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Dixon, IL.
