Velma Ann Defrain, 83, of the Horn of the Moon Road died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 with her family at her side.
She was born in Montpelier on March 17, 1929, the daughter of Guy and Ethel (Parsons) Hale.
She attended the Horn of the Moon School House in East Montpelier.
On February 22, 1955 she married Raymond Defrain in Bethel, VT. Mr. Defrain predeceased her on February 8, 1968.
Velma was a stay at home mom and took pride in raising her children. She was passionate about gardening, both vegetables and flowers. She loved to read books and enjoyed trying newly discovered recipes from her many cook books.
Survivors include her daughter; Susan Tilloston and her husband Doug, of Williamstown and their children, Kevin and Kimberly; daughter, Renee Poor and her husband, Alvin of Williamstown their children, Michelle and Kristy; son, David Defrain of East Montpelier; and son, Randy DeFrain and his wife, Loretta of East Montpelier and their son, Kyle; great grandchildren, Sean, Nicky, Riley, Katie, Leland and Harrison; sisters, Hester Manning and her husband, Francis of East Montpelier, Dorothy Ciampi of Montpelier, and Glenna Hale of East Montpelier; brothers, Charles Hale and his wife, Grace, of Arizona and Arthur Hale of East Montpelier; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three brothers Reginald Laundry, Calvin Hale, and Nathan Hale.
There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, July 30, 2012 at North Branch Cemetery, Middlesex, VT.
