Obituary

East Barre, VT

Valerie (Bombard) Bragg, beloved daughter, wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2025, surrounded by her family.

She was born on September 16, 1959 to Edward and Pauline (Viens) Bombard in Barre, Vermont. Val attended Barre Town Elementary School and Spaulding High School. In 1978, Val met the love of her life, Rick Bragg. They were married on July 26, 1980. Val began operating a home daycare after the birth of her first child, Ronald. She nurtured the lives of countless children in "Val's Daycare" for twenty years before continuing her work as a preschool teacher in both Vermont and New York.

Throughout her life, Val had a passion for gardening that she shared with her sisters and friends. She loved to be outside in the sun, in her garden or near the ocean.

Of all her nurturing roles, Val's favorite was Meme to her nine grandchildren and one great grandson. She could often be found taking her grandchildren on adventures or crafting with them.

Valerie is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Richard Bragg; her mother, Pauline Bombard; her mother-in-law, Virginia Bragg; her daughter, Erin Joslin; her son, Ronald Bragg; and daughter-in-law, Amber Bragg; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. She will be deeply missed by her siblings: sisters Jean Bombard, Patrice Siergiey (and partner Walter) and brothers Edward, Andre (and wife Roslynn) and Peter (and wife Jenny) Bombard. She will also be missed by her large extended Bragg, Bombard and Viens families. She was predeceased by her father, Edward Bombard, sister-in-law Robin Bombard, father-in-law Robert Bragg and Uncle David Viens.

At Val's request, a celebration of life will be held in the spring when family and friends can gather outside and enjoy the sunshine.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Valerie's honor to St. Jude's Children's Hospitals.

Valerie's kindness, laughter, and love will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
