Thomas George Ryan, 71, of Three Mile Bridge Road died August 2, 2017 at his home in Middlesex. He was born in Montpelier on November 4, 1945, the son of Everett and Ethel (Progen) Ryan. Thomas attended school in Middlesex and graduated from Montpelier High School in the Class of 1964. Thomas worked for the State of Vermont Highway Department, the Department of Liquor Control, Gallagher Lumber, and National Life Insurance Company. He retired in 2006 after 30 years in the Maintenance Division at National Life. He held many positions there including Groundskeeper, Custodian, and Chauffeur. He was an active member of the Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He served as FireOfficer, Assistant Chief and later Fire Chief for several years. He also served in the US Army. On September 24, 1966 Thomas married Julia (Greenslit) Ryan, together they have four children. Later Thomas married Lynn Brown who passed away in 2004, and later Carol Martin. Thomas is survived by two daughters, Tina Kennedy and her husband, Scott of Moretown and Carol James and her partner Kara of Colorado; two sons, Timothy Ryan and his wife, Ann of Middlesex and Everett Ryan of Ohio; grandchildren, Mikaela Pearson and her husband Ryan and Megan Ryan; Elizabeth & Brandon Kennedy; Caitin, Collin and Emmerie Ryan; great grandson, Henry George Pearson; nieces and nephews, Shannon Zeller and her husband, Alex of Cambridge; Karen Pallas and her husband, Andy of East Montpelier; Patrick Ryan and his wife, Sharon of Newport; Sean Ryan and his wife, Shari-Lee of Newport; Jean Ann Pallas of Marshfield; and Richard Ryan Jr and his partner, Angela of South Barre. Also surviving is his aunt, Evelyn Hendrickson of East Montpelier; Cousin Charley Ryan of Florida; Brother-in-Law Wayne Brown of Florida and several great nieces and nephews. Thomas was predeceased by his brothers Michael Ryan and Richard Ryan. A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 9th at 11:00 am at Middlesex United Methodist Church, Church Street, Middlesex. Burial will be at the Middlesex Center Cemetery.
