Barre, VT Thomas Philip Rolland, of Barre, Vermont, age 72, died February 27, 2018, with family by his side, at Menig Nursing Home in Randolph Center, Vermont, after a 15 year illness with Alzheimers. He was born, January 11, 1946, son of Alice (Trautman) and Charles Rolland of Clifton Springs, NY. Tom graduated from Clifton Springs high school 1964, Cornell University 1968, with a BS Chemical & Material Science Engineering and University of Connecticut 1972, with an MBA. He worked at Fafnir Bearing Texton and later at M.P.B., 1968-74, in CT. From 1975-84, Tom ran his own specialty chemical company, DynaChem, in Portland, CT, then East Calais, VT, and later as DynaPro in Montpelier, VT. From 1985, Tom did business marketing & development as DynaCo. A dedicated member of the Seventh-day Adventist church, Tom spoke at worship services, and worked as a Bible instructor and door-to-door colporteur. He loved the outdoors and was an avid downhill skier and gardener. Tom enjoyed frequent hiking with his family and dog. He continued the Rolland affection for popcorn. Throughout his life, Tom was passionate about music, singing for church and playing the trombone in high school, a big band and community bands. While living in Montpelier, VT, he formed a musical ensemble, Green Mountain Brass, with his two sons, nephew and friends. Playing classical and sacred music, the group recorded an album "Onward Christian Soldiers" and performed across the northeastern United States and beyond. Tom is lovingly remembered by his wife, of 51 years, Barbara (Castle) Rolland of Barre, VT; son, Chadd (wife Erika) and grandchildren (Benjamin, Zachary, Jonathan, Anneliese), of Edinboro, PA; son, Ty (wife Nancy) and grandchildren (Kelsey, Kilee, Joshua), of East Montpelier, VT; daughter, Heather Brown, of Loma Linda, CA; daughter, Erinn Rolland-Forkey (husband Mark) and grandchildren (Sieanna, Levi, Carter), of Waterbury, VT; brother, Roy (wife Kay), NY; sister-in-law, Mary Ann (Rolland), FL; sister-in-law, Marilyn (Rolland), SC; brother-in-law, John Castle, CA; mother-in-law, Lois (Castle) Rehm, CA; and many caring nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents; brother, William, NY; father-in-law Earl Castle, NY; and brother-in-law, Gary Castle, AL. Tom is buried in Green Mountain Cemetery, Montpelier, VT. A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 22, 1:00 pm, at the Barre Seventh-day Adventist Church, 297 Vine Street, Berlin, VT, 05641.
