Obituary

Montpelier, VT Thomas J. Manning, 71, of Elm Street, died on Monday, September 9, 2013 at the Berlin Health and Rehab Center. He was born on July 10, 1942, the son of the late Percy W. and Mildred F. (Devino) Manning. He attended St. Michael's Schools. He served in the Vermont Army National Guard in the 1960's. Tommy worked as a custodian for the Montpelier School System as well as a crossing guard at the corners of Main and School Street. He also worked at the former Miss Montpelier Diner and Brooks Esso Service Station on lower State Street. He also mowed lawns for several families in the area. He was a member of many local clubs including the American Legion, Aurora Lodge # 22 F & AM, Mt. Sinai Temple # 3, Crown Jewels, Ianis Club, and a Life Member Canadian Club. Tommy was an avid bowler and was a long time participant of several bowling leagues in the area. He was also a dedicated fan of the Vermont Mountaineers Baseball Team. Survivors include his brothers; Arthur Manning and his wife, Arlene of Montpelier; Francis Manning and Hester of Middlesex; Raymond Manning and his wife, Tina of Northfield; sisters, Mary Kelley of Northfield; Anne Rogers and her husband, David of Marshfield; Elaine Isham and her husband, Ross of Moretown; and Teresa Brooks of Meriden, CT; sister-in-law, Yvonne Manning; long time friends, Donald and Tippy Ruggles; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, William, "Mickey" Manning on November 6, 2012; and brothers-in-law, Raymond Kelley and Myron Brooks. Calling hours will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm, Friday, September 13th at the Masonic Center, Gallison Hill, Montpelier. A Masonic Memorial Service will begin at 7:00 PM. Committal service with military honors will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, September 17th at Berlin Corners Cemetery. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Berlin Health and Rehab, c wing, for there compassionate care.
