Obituary

Montpelier, VT Terence M. Monahan, Jr., 77, of Deerfield Drive, died on Monday, November 18, 2013 at the Woodridge Nursing Home. He was born on December 17, 1935 in New London, CT, the son of Terence M Monahan, Sr. and Almira (Eggleston) Monahan. He graduated high school from Norwich Free Academy in 1953. He then enlisted into the United States Navy from 1954 until his honorable discharge in 1957. He furthered his education at the University of Connecticut, receiving his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting in 1961 and later at Boston College where he received his Master's degree in Business Administration in 1970. He began his career at the First National Bank of Boston where he worked as a teller to up to investment officer. 1971 to 1977, he was the Vice President of the Colonial National Bank of Danvers. From 1977 until his retirement in 1998 he worked for the Small Business Administration in Montpelier as a Loan Officer. On October 15, 1977 he married Susan Eldred at the Christ Church in Andover, MA. Locally he was a member of the American Legion, post 3. He was a former vice president of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and also president of his sophomore class at UCONN. Survivors include his wife, Susan Monahan of Montpelier; daughter, Meghan Monahan and her partner Luther Morway of Barre Town; Kelley Monahan and her partner, Chad Palmer of North Ferrisburg, VT; grandchildren, Eva Lebourveau, Luke Lebourveau, Thomas Lebourveau, and Isabelle Palmer, brothers, Dennis and and his wife Sharon Monahan of Uncasville, CT and Jerry and his wife Deborah Monahan of Norwich, CT; as well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends, as well as close family friend, Maureen Sullivan. He was predeceased by his parents, Terence and Almira Monahan and nephews Dennis Monahan, Jr. and David Monahan. Calling hours will be held from 6:00-8:00 on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at the Guare & Sons Funeral Home, 30 School Street, Montpelier, VT. A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 am on Friday, November 22, 2013 at St. Augustine's Church. Committal prayers will follow at Green Mount Cemetery. The family would like to thank the caring nurses and staff at the Woodridge Nursing Home who helped take such wonderful care of him in his final days. The family truly appreciated the love and support that was extended to them throughout that time.
