Stephen lost his battle to cancer on Dec. 5, 2013 surrounded by his family at The Cancer Treatment Center in Philadelphia, PA. He was courageous throughout his illness and never gave up hope. As he would pray for strength and support along his journey he would also ask that his family and others facing the battle against cancer along with those providing medical care and support be given the same. Stephen was the son of Stephen E. Kelty Sr. and Betsy {Whalen} Kelty . He was born Nov. 29, 1958 in Barre, VT. He attended grade school in Barre Town and was a graduate of Spaulding High School class of 1977. He worked for The State of Vermont Buildings and General Services Dept. for over 20 yrs. His first position was in the Postal Section, Print Shop and later as Supervisor for the Record Center in Middlesex. He later worked for the Agency of Transportation as a Customer Service Specialist until illness caused him to take a leave of absence in December of 2012.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and son. He enjoyed spending time with family as well as being on the beach. He enjoyed watching his Philadelphia Eagles play football and listening to country music but there was nothing more that Stephen enjoyed than the Christmas season and watching the first snow fall. He was lovingly known as Mr. Christmas or the Scotch pine Man. Some of his fondest memories were the times spent with his children as they would snowmobile during the winter. In the summer he would love to have cookouts and invite the family so all could share. He enjoyed cooking and baking his "famous holiday pies." Another specialty of his was making his peanut butter fudge for the kids for all that Stephen did and who he was his family was his heart and center.
