Stephen "Toby" W. Hart, 91, formerly of Pleasant Street and most recently of Heaton Woods died on Sunday, January 7, 2017 at Heaton Woods in Montpelier.
He was born on August 14, 1926, the son of Stephen and Katie (Welch) Hart. He grew up in Groton, VT and moved to Barre City as a teenager.
On December 28, 1944, He enlisted in the United States Army where he honorably served during World War II, until his discharge on November 27, 1946. He enjoyed his time in the service, which also gave him a love of traveling.
Toby worked as a Heating and Air Conditioning service and repairman for many years in the Central Vermont Area. Upon his retirement he started his own business "Tobys Daytime Service" where he continued to work until the age of 85.
On October 8, 1955, He married Jean Redmond at St. Augustines Catholic Church. Jean predeceased him on July 21, 2014.
He was a member of St. Augustines Catholic Church, VFW in Barre, American Legion Post #3, and the Montpelier Elks Club. He was also a life long Ham Radio operator.
Survivors include his daughter, Susan Viens and her husband Ernie of Barre Town and Grandchildren Diana (Lucas) Laperle of Montpelier, Stephen Viens of Northfield, and Krysta (Christopher) Emerson of Barre Town. He leaves 6 great grandchildren Emma, Maverick, Hannah, Lilly, Sadie and Rayden. He also is survived by his brother Van (Denice) Davidson of Florida and sisters-in-laws Joan Hart of Barre, Polly Redmond of Montpelier, and Maria Redmond of Williamstown.
He was predeceased by a son Stephen Hart in 1978, as well as brothers, Alexander and Francis and sisters, Agnes and Lenora.
There will be no calling hours. A Funeral Mass will be held 12:00 noon on Friday, January 12, 2018 at St. Augustine Catholic Church.
