Stanley Carleton Day (Pete), 90, of Hideaway Drive in Berlin, died peacefully on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at his home.
He was born on May 17, 1929 in Colchester, Vermont, the son of Warren L. Day and Bernice (Kinsley) Day. Stanley attended and graduated from a one room school house in Jericho, VT in 1946. He later received a Bachelors Degree from the University of Vermont in 1956.
On August 24, 1957, he married Suzanne Gurney at St. Paul Episcopal Church in Burlington, VT. Together they had four children.
Pete mostly worked as an Adjustor in the Insurance Industry for several companies, including Travelers, Ambassador, and the Concord Group before retiring in 1993.
He served in the United State Army until his honorable discharge in 1955.
Petes passion was skiing. Being born on the western side of Mount Mansfield, he was always drawn to that mountain. He was a member of the original ski patrol at Bolton Valley ski area and a longtime member of the National Ski Patrol. He was proud of his low membership number, 1249. He also served on the Stowe Ski Patrol and later as a host at the mountain. Pete enjoyed most outdoor activities, including hiking, biking, and canoeing.
In Pete's retirement he loved his beautiful flower beds with many shrubs, spending hours tending them.
Pete and Sue enjoyed traveling extensively through most of the United States and Canada. They also traveled to Europe, South America, Australia, and New Zealand. However, Vermont, with its mountains and lakes, was his true love. From Sue, Pete developed a love of Eagle Camp on Lake Champlain. They spent many summers together there. They developed many friendships and looked forward to the reunions with them every year. He served on the board of directors for Eagle Camp for nine years.
Pete leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Suzanne, of Berlin; his children, Jonathan Perkins Day and his wife, Mary Jo Llewellyn of Woodbury, VT, Thomas Gurney Day and his wife, Liz of Squaw Valley, CA, Jennifer Kinsley Mignano and her husband, Andrew of Williston, VT; grandchildren, Daniel Day, Christina Aguilar, Steven Mignano, Leonore Day, Maria Mignano; He was so happy to have his first great grand child, Isabel Aguilar in May creating a new generation, and sister in-law Nancy Hayes and her husband Jerry.
He was predeceased by his son, Jeffrey Howland Day in 1960 and his siblings, Elizabeth Day Powel, Alan and Howard Day.
