Obituary

East Montpelier, VT

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sandy Francis Conti on August 23, 2025, at the age of 65 at home after a gallant fight with glioblastoma. Sandy was born on March 15, 1960, in Barre, VT, to Nicholas and Florence Conti and spent his life in the Central Vermont area, where he left an indelible mark on his family and community.

Sandy was a dedicated granite cutter at Rock of Ages and a proud member of the Granite Cutters Union. His craftsmanship and work ethic were second to none. Beyond the granite industry, he served his community in many ways: as a firefighter lieutenant and EMR for the East Montpelier Fire and Ambulance, where he was a board member for many years. He also held various roles as the East Montpelier Town Constable, Animal Control Officer, and was a member of the East Montpelier Board of Civil Authority. Sandy was well-respected in the community for his service and commitment.

Known for his love of sports, Sandy was an avid Red Sox fan and coached youth baseball, sharing his passion for the game with the next generation. A proud member of the Vermont Umpire Association for 30 plus years and the East Montpelier Gulley Jumpers snow mobile club, he relished any chance to contribute to local sports. When he wasn't at the field, you could find him in the great outdoors—hunting, snowmobiling, bass fishing, maple sugaring, camping, or running his beloved beagles during rabbit season, especially during deer season in New York.

Sandy was a graduate of Spaulding High School and later earned an Associate's Degree in Internal Combustion Engines from Laconia Technical School. He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, where he fostered ties with his community and church.

He is survived by his loving wife, Teresa Codling-Conti, and his stepsons, Cresswell and his wife Xochitl, and Sheldon Codling; a wonderful bunch of grandkids: Jenavive, Tito, Cresswell, Anya, and Cullen, along with his great-grandchild, Phoenix. Sandy is also remembered fondly by his brothers, Nick and (Cindy) Conti, and Tom and (Michelle) Conti, his sister, Lori Conti, his brother-in-law law Roger Piette, and his Uncle Joe and Aunt Mary Anne Cerasoli. His brothers-in-law, Michael and Charlene Water, Mark and Kathy Waters, and his sister-in-law Laura and Jon Faherty. As well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Sandy was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Florence (Cerasoli) Conti, and his sisters, Vicki Conti, Donna Piette.

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at Guare & Sons Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held in Sandy's honor at St. Monica's Catholic Church on August 29, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with the ceremonial "final alarm" starting at 10:30 a.m. A reception will be held at the Canadian Club following the mass. All who knew Sandy should come and celebrate his life and the many ways he touched our hearts. Interment will be a private ceremony at a later date.

Though he has left us, Sandy's spirit will forever remain in the laughter of his family, the fields where he hunted, and the community he loved so deeply.
