Sandra Jacobs Sloan , 65, of Towne Hill Road, East Montpelier, died Wednesday evening, October 23, 2013 at her home after a courageous and hard fought battle with melanoma cancer.
She was born on January 30, 1948 in Montpelier, the daughter of Homer and Rachel (Towne) Jacobs. She grew up in the Three Mile Bridge area of Berlin and attended schools in Riverton and Montpelier before graduating from Spaulding High School.
Sandy worked for more than twenty years at both Sprague Electric and Capital City Press. She retired from the department of Fish and Wildlife in the spring of 2012. Everywhere she went, Sandy made wonderful life-long friends.
Sandy enjoyed many crafts including rug hooking and woodworking and also loved the outdoors. Flowers, plants and landscaping were special hobbies. She also enjoyed hiking, golf, traveling, and motorcycling. Her biggest love, however, was spending time with her family.
She married James Sloan in East Montpelier on March 17, 2012. She was previously married to the late Richard Barnhart and the late Wayne Town.
Beside her husband, she leaved her son, Chris Town and his wife Pam (Lyons) and grandson Ethan of Potomac, Montana and her daughter Kelly Finnegan and her husband Kevin and granddaughter, Sage Guggenheim of Barre, her mother Rachel Jacobs of Berlin, her sister Diane Moore and her husband Bill of Morgan, VT and her brother Glen Jacobs and his family of Dallas, TX and well as several nieces and nephews.
At Sandy's wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service, and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
The family would like to thank the staff at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and at the Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice for their care, help, and support as well as special friends and volunteers, Sherri Yacono, Elaine Goodall, Ginger Hopkins, and Beth Plante who spent many hours with Sandy.
