IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sandra Arlene
Flannery
January 1, 1950 – November 24, 2024
East Montpelier, VT
Sandy Flannery, 83, passed away from complications surrounding a fall at her home in early August.
She was the second born child to Walter J. and Rachael A. Kirckham of Ludlow, VT.
After graduating from Black River High School and Burdett College, Sandy brought her secretarial major to Montpelier where she began a forty-year career with the Federal highway Administration, known now as the Federal Department of Transportation. She received numerous awards during her tenure.
Her second years after arriving in Montpelier, she met the love of her life and true soul mate, John Flannery. Little did he know that giving her a ride home from the bowling alley would lead to a trip down the aisle at St. Joseph's church in Chester, VT two years later. This would lead to a 61-year bond, and forty-eight of those years spent at their home on Center Road in East Montpelier, which they purchased on the 200th anniversary of our country in 1976.
Sandy leaves behind her husband, her son, Michael J. Flannery, and daughter in law Amy Sykas-Flannery of Plainfield, VT; her grandchildren, Ryan and Christopher and his wife Kathern, cousins and great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a baby sister, her parents, and step-father.
A funeral mass will be held 11:00 am on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at St. Augustine's Catholic Church. A reception will follow in the parish hall. Committal prayer will be offered privately at the Doty Cemetery in East Montpelier.
