Samuel Crawford FitzPatrick died on April 22, 2019 at the age of 83. He was born on February 27, 1936 in Norfolk, Virginia, son of the late Reverend Gerald and Jifka (Popova) FitzPatrick. He graduated from Montpelier High School, Yale University in 1955, Cornell Law School and served as an officer in the Navy.
Sam married Susan (Wright) on August 14, 1965 and moved back to Montpelier to start his real estate law practice. Sam was an active member of the Montpelier community, volunteering as both a baseball and hockey coach and serving proudly as a board member of Northfield Savings Bank for many years. Sam enjoyed spending time at his camp, duck hunting and sailing on Lake Champlain. Sam was well known for his zest for life, honest and strong opinions and sense of humor.
He leaves behind his three children- daughter Alison FitzPatrick of Burlington, son Russell FitzPatrick and wife Kate of Northfield, son John Jameson FitzPatrick of Montpelier, his three grandchildren Madeline, Charles and Rory, brother Malcolm as well as nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Douglas.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 9th at Guare and Sons Funeral Home in Montpelier at 6:00 p.m. A reception will follow at the V.F.W. in Montpelier. In lieu of flowers, Sams family is asking for donations to be made in his memory to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, VT 05641.
