Ronald Maynard Gonyaw, a beloved member of the East Montpelier community and of the West Charleston community, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on January 22, 1939, in Albany, VT, to his parents, Maynard and Erdine (Butler) Gonyaw.
Ronald was drafted into the United States Army and served as an MP until his honorable discharge in 1964. Ronald was a remarkable baseball player and was invited to try out for the Boston Red Sox. He continued his love for baseball by coaching several local leagues throughout the area.
Ronald dedicated his life to serving and protecting the wildlife of Vermont as a passionate and dedicated Game Warden. His love for nature and his deep understanding of the importance of conservation made him a respected figure in the field of wildlife law enforcement. He proudly served his community in this role for 31 years, leaving an indelible mark on the hunting and fishing community.
He was a talented marksman. He competed for many years on the Vermont Warden pistol team and proudly won two national tournaments.
Born into a life of rural farming Ron helped run his parents dairy farm in Albany, VT. Ronald understood the beauty in the little things and possessed an unwavering sense of integrity. His warmth, compassion, and infectious sense of humor endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a pillar of strength to his family, friends, and colleagues.
Ronald is survived by his beloved sons, Steven Gonyaw and wife Deborah of East Montpelier and Jeffrey Gonyaw, of Barton, VT. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Amanda, Steven, and Erika and his great granddaughter, who he lovingly referred to as "The best baby ever!", Amelia!!!!
Ronald Maynard Gonyaw will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His kind heart, unwavering love, and steadfast devotion to his family, community, and the wildlife he cared for will forever be etched in our hearts and minds. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we find solace in the memories we shared with him and seek comfort in the legacy he leaves behind.
Rest in peace, dear Ronald Maynard Gonyaw. You have touched the lives of many and your spirit will forever be remembered.
