Roland Edward Cross, 68, of Midway Street died on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the Fletcher Allen Medical Center in Burlington, VT.
He was born on November 16, 1944 in Montpelier, the son of Albert Cross, Sr and Irene (Guyette) Cross. He attended Montpelier High School.
On July 11, 1981, he married Margaret Colbeth at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Montpelier.
After high school Roland, began working for the State of Vermont. There he worked for a number of different departments, doing various jobs, before retiring after 30 years of public service. Presently he worked for the Montpelier Public School System as a crossing guard and most recently for the Barre Elementary School as a school bus rider for the preschoolers.
Roland loved to travel, especially trips to Wells Beach, ME. He also enjoyed camping and shopping, mostly so he could visit and talk with the various people along his journey. His world was his grandchildren whom he cherished more than anything.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Margaret Cross of Barre; step daughters, Lori Farnham of Williamstown and Jennifer Beams of Plainfield; step son, Theodore Beams of Barre, VT; and grandchildren, Edwin Farnham, James Farnham, Nicholas Farnham, Brittany Farnham, Ashley Butler, Dakota Beams, Jared Taylor, and Daniel Taylor; siblings, Lynda Colbeth and her husband Richard of Newbury, VT, and Albert Cross, Jr. and his companion, Sandra Thompson of Barre, VT.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
