Barre - Roger L. Sprague, 68, of Barre, died suddenly from a heart attack, Sunday, May 8, 2011, at his home.
Roger was born in Fitchburg, MA, on October 22, 1942, the son of the late Franklin Sprague, and Violet Jarvi and the late Andrew Jarvi.
Roger moved to Vermont in 1976 and started work at The National Life Insurance Company in 1980. He worked there for 30 years having just retired in December, 2010. He took great pride in his work at National Life and made many friends there. Roger not only took pride in his job but also in his home where you could always finding him puttering around the house repairing, painting, gardening and just keeping the house and yard in pristine condition. Roger also loved hunting and fishing, along with feeding the birds and the squirrels in his yard.
Roger leaves behind his wife, of almost 35 years, Linda Rivers Sprague and their son, Brent Ashford and his wife Catherine and his two grandchildren, Cody and Kasey Ashford, who were very special to him, also of Barre.
He is survived by his mother Violet Jarvi and his sister Susan and her husband Steve Buczynski of Ashby, MA. Roger had two daughters from a previous marriage, Lisa who lives in Leominster, MA and her two children, Edmund Green and Tammy Wideman, and a daughter, Brenda, who is deceased, and her daughter, Nicole. Roger also had one brother, James Sprague, who is deceased, his wife Helen resides in Arizona. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. We also want to mention Roger's love for his pet dog, Katie.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 am at Friday, May 13, 2011 at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 137 Main Street, Montpelier, VT. A reception will follow the service in the parish hall for family and friends. Committal will be in Hope Cemetery in Barre City.
