Rodney Dean
Charron
March 28, 1940 – April 9, 2026
Rodney Dean Charron, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2026, at the age of 86. He was born on March 28, 1940, to Francis and Florence Charron in Lyndonville, Vermont. He spent his life dedicated to family, friends, and his profession as a land surveyor.
Rod attended Lyndon Institute before pursuing further education at Lyndon State College and Vermont Technical College. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960, including a deployment in Panama. Following his service, he went on to build a successful career in surveying, working with Webster Martin and Aquatec. In 1982, he and his partners purchased Aquatec's survey division and transformed it into Vermont Survey Consultants.
Rod was an active member of the Montpelier Elks Club and the Vermont Society of Land Surveyors, forming lasting friendships within these communities. Above all, he cherished his role as a family man. Rod took great joy in coaching his son's football, baseball, and hockey teams, leaving a lasting impression on his son and on the lives of many young athletes who continue to share cherished memories of him.
Rod enjoyed yearly shopping trips with his daughter and was an avid fan of her field hockey games and tennis matches. He himself was an exceptional athlete growing up, and was very disappointed to learn that his football tackle record was broken several years back. Later in life, he continued to showcase his athleticism through coaching and on the golf course whenever time allowed. He never played golf consistently, but one would have thought he played daily. He loved "hunting" with his brother Dale and watching any New England sports team-especially the Boston Red Sox-with his wife of 62 years, "Babes."
Most of all, he treasured watching his three grandchildren (Aiden, Zoe & Lilly) play hockey and participate in the many other sports and activities they were all involved in.
He will be remembered fondly for his love of his family and spending quality time with them, as well as his four-legged grand dogs. He appreciated great food, conversation, reminiscing, and anything that could make people laugh. Rod's warmth, humor, charisma, and that everlasting twinkle in his eye will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Rod is survived by his cherished wife, Joanne Charron; his daughter, Kim Tewksbury and her spouse, Brent; his son, Brian Charron and his spouse, Cathy; his grandchildren, Aiden Charron, Zoe Tewksbury, and Lilly Tewksbury; his sisters, Mary Farino and Janet Charron; and his brother, Bob Charron.
He was predeceased by his parents, Frances and Florence; his brother, Dale; his sister, Marilyn; and his sister, Dorothy "Dotty".
A celebration of Rod's life will be held on May 30, 2026, at the Barre Country Club from 11:00-2:00. In place of flowers, donations can be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Rod's memory.
Rodney Dean Charron's love for his family, his community, and his passion for life will forever resonate in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him.
