Obituary

ROBERTA A. VIENS Roberta A. Viens, 80, of Erin, NY, passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer She was born in Montpelier on October 21, 1930, the daughter of the late Walter F. Hatch, Sr. and Katherine Marckres Hatch. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Roberta was pre-deceased by her husband, Joseph A. Viens, her son, Robert Viens, her daugher-in-law, Robin Ward Viens, her parents, Walter F. Hatch, Sr. and Catherine Hatch and her brother, Walter F. Hatch, Jr. She is survived by her children: Catherine (Tom) Kargacin of Lacey, Washington; Anne (Charles) Swift of Erin, NY, Joseph Viens of South Burlington, Arthur Viens of Salem, Oregon and Paul Viens of Morrisville, North Carolina. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Jutta Viens, 12 grandchildren (Joe (Yuko) Swift, Matthew Swift, Michelle Swift, Nicole (Rolf) Jorgensen, Leah Viens, Melanie (Keith) Prentice, Shaun Viens, Hillary Viens, Jennifer Viens, Jeffrey Viens, Cameron Viens and Brienna Viens) and 3 great-grandchildren (Shelby Viens, Annie McGowan and Audrey Prentice); her sisters, Lorraine Elliott, Donna (Bob) Alexander and Dianne (Al) Kircher; uncle, Marvin Marckres; Sisters-in-law, Peggy Daniels and Rosie Frappier , and, brother-in-law, Robert Viens. She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends in Montpelier, South Burlington, Farmville, Virginia and Erin, NY. She was a retired Sears Roebuck employee. Roberta spent many years as a military wife traveling and living in Germany and many places in the U.S. Her love of traveling continued once she retired and she had many great trips that she remembered fondly. There will be a graveside service at North Branch Cemetery, Middlesex, on Monday, October 3, 11:00 a.m. with a lunch and remembrance to follow at the Montpelier VFW for friends and family.
