Robert Emerson “Bob” Voorhees

Montpelier, VT

Robert Emerson “Bob” Voorhees, 82, of Montpelier, VT, passed away peacefully at Heaton Woods Residence.

Bob was born on August 5, 1941, to Robert E. Voorhees and Dorothy E. (Gunn) Voorhees in Wilmington, Delaware.

Bob graduated from Conrad High School in Wilmington, Delaware, in 1959. He attended the University of Delaware, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Bob served in the Delaware National Guard from 1966 to 1972.

Bob began his career in Corrections after graduating from college and held many administrative positions, first in Delaware and then in the Vermont Prison System. Bob also owned and ran the PLR Manwell Store in Plainfield, VT, for many years.

Bob was deeply committed to AA; he was a long-time member and sponsor to many. A lifelong sailor, many of his happiest memories were of sailing during winters spent in Florida after his retirement.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dorothy Voorhees.

He is survived by a daughter, Gala McCurdy of Seekonk, MA, two grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are in the care of Guare and Sons Funeral Home of Montpelier, VT.
