Robert Greene Stewart, 77, of Main Street lost his battle with cancer on Monday, November 12, 2018 at his home.
He was born on September 22, 1941, the son of Wayne and Edith (White) Stewart. He graduated from Montpelier High School in 1960.
He enlisted into the United States Army in October of 1963 , and served until his discharge in 1970.
On July 15, 1977 he married Carol Rouelle. In 2002, they renewed their vows to each other, celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary.
Robert began his career working for the Vermont State Highway Department. He later worked as a truck driver several companies including Cooley Asphalt, Pike Industries, and ST. Paving, where he retired in 2006.
Robert was a member of the American Legion Post #3 and was the past president of the VFW Mens Auxiliary Post #792. He had a passion for cars, especially for his restored 1957 Chevy Sedan. He enjoyed NASCAR racing, cheering for the number 3 car, Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and the number 88 car, Dale Earnhardt, JR. He was an avid Nascar memorabilia collector. He was also a history buff, especially military history and enjoyed watching documentaries about World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Stewart of Montpelier; daughter, Julie Haggett of East Montpelier and her children, Edward Rock, Matthew Rock, and Chris Haggett; daughter, Janelle Gallison and her husband David of East Montpelier and their children, Travis Gallison, Scott Gallison, and Sabrina Gallison; step son, John Langlois of Montpelier and his children, Dylan Langlois and Autumn Langlois, step son, Jay Langlois and his wife Cynthia of Concord, CA and their children, Amanda Langlois and Christopher Langlois; his sister, Sue Ann Markham of Berlin; sister, Tela Malloy of Berlin; 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and a nephew
He was predeceased by his son in law, Tom Haggett and a brother, Richard Stewart.
There will be no calling hours. A funeral service will be held 11:00 am on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at the Guare & Sons Funeral Home, 30 School Street, Montpelier, VT.
