Robert E. "Bob" Parsons, 83, of Berlin, died Sunday April 8, 2018 at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington following a brief period of declining health.
Bob was born Aug. 21, 1934 in Peru, N.Y., to Harold and Victoria Parsons. He attended schools in Peru before graduating from Peru High School. He then went on to Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., where he received a degree in agricultural engineering.
While at Cornell, Bob met the former Faye Storm, of Candor, N.Y. They were married in Ithaca, N.Y. in the late 1950s. Shortly afterward they moved to Vermont when Bob took a job as the territorial manager for the John Deere Company.
They moved to Middlesex in the early 1960s and Bob and Faye bought Twin City Equipment, the John Deere tractor dealership for the central Vermont area, which he operated for many years as they raised their three girls. Bob always had to be busy and he lived for his family. After retirement, he delivered parts for Harvest Equipment, cars for a local car dealership and he sometimes drove shuttles for area hotels and volunteered at the Central Vermont Hospital in Berlin. He loved his daughters and projects. He would often be found building barns, gardening sheds or docks at their homes. He was a fixture at his great-grandsons sports games.
In recent years he attended the First Congregational Church of Berlin. He was also a decades-long presence at the Middlesex United Methodist Church.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, his sister Marian, his brother John and grandson Colin Zack.
He is survived by his special friend Doris Winters, of Berlin; his wife, Faye, of South Burlington; his daughter Vicki Zack and her husband Jeff of Melbourne, Fla.; daughter Kimberly Parsons and her husband Wilson Ring of Waterbury; and daughter Lori Parsons and her husband Jim Kellogg of St. Johnsbury.
