Obituary

BERLIN, VT Robert Mark "Bob" Kelley, 87 passed away in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family, on Saturday September 15, 2018 following a brief illness. Robert was born January 28, 1931. He was the son of Darrell and Blanche (LaFlower) Kelley. He married his wife of 65 years Nada (Sears) on November 1, 1952. He leaves behind his wife Nada and daughters Linda Salls and husband Erwin (Jr) of Greensboro, Lisa Bailey and husband Wayne of Berlin, sons Robert Kelley and wife Mary Lou, of Berlin, Kerry Kelley and wife Samantha of Berlin, his sister Mabel Premont and husband Matt of Berlin. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He was predeceased by a daughter Cathy Davison, his brothers Pat Edson and Ben Edson both of Barre as well as a sister Ann Lassell of Williamstown. In 1948 he started working as a Carpenter and held various other positions which included working the railroad until he joined the Navel Reserves in 1950, and was placed in active duty in 1951. He served as a mechanic on the Navy Ship USS Blair (DE 147) during the Korean War. After his discharge from active duty in 1952 he remained in the Navel Reserves until 1953. Once leaving the Naval Reserves he joined the Army National Guard until 1957 were he reached the rank of Specialist Third Class of the 172 Infantry Regiment. Upon his return he starting working for Lily Fuels, thru multiple ownerships "Vermont Petroleum", "Agway Fuels" and then retired from Agway Fuels as a Burner Tech / Service Manager. Upon retiring he continued to do the things he loved which included hunting, fishing, spending time at hunting camp with his sons/grandsons as well as his family and friends. He especially enjoyed the many years he spent at camp with his cousin/best friend "Ben" on Woodbury Pond. He got a real kick out of the Christmas gifts his granddaughters gave him each year. Bob was a member of Canadian Club, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Loyal Order of Moose. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2018. Calling hours will begin at 10:00 am and followed by a funeral beginning at 11:00 at Guare and Sons Funeral Home, 30 School Street, Montpelier, VT. A committal service will follow at the Berlin Corners Cemetery. A reception will be held at the American Legion in Northfield following the committal. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in his name to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, VT.
