East Montpelier, VT Robert Allen Franks, Sr. of Horn of the Moon Road passed away, Friday, February 23, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. Robert passed at the age of 76. He was born in Marshfield, VT on March 19, 1941, the son of Douglas and Ruth (Holt) Franks. He attended Schools in Marshfield. On June 21, 1968, he married his soul mate Sylvia Slayton at the Adamant Church in Adamant. Together they raised five children. Robert served in the Vermont National Guard during the Vietnam War. He was a volunteer firefighter in Plainfield and East Montpelier VT. Robert was the definition of an entrepreneur! He and his brother owned Go Go Gas in South Barre, a carpenter building many community members homes, made his children and most of his grandchildren, cradles, dressers, and keepsakes. He lived off the land, which he passed down, to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Family was most important to him, he enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren grow. With all he accomplished in his life, he said his biggest was his family! His hobbies included hunting, fishing, racing, working on antique engines, boiling, packaging, and selling maple syrup, and making whirlee-Gigs for his family and friends. Robert had a love for music, which; was passed down from his Dad founder of the Plainfield Hobo Band. His record player never had dust on it, and every chance he had to take his beautiful wife into his arms and swing her around a dance floor, he did! One of their fondest memories was at the Grand Ol Oprey when Jeanie Pruet sang "Satin Sheets" on their anniversary! Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Sylvia Franks; their children, Denise Felch and her husband Robert of Berlin, Ginger Franks of East Montpelier, Heidi Thibault and her husband Jon of Williston, Lloyd Franks of Marshfield, Robert Franks, Jr. and his companion Joanne Herring of Berlin; sisters, Cindy Franks of Barre, Linda Lamberton and her husband Brian of Marshfield, Edie Dunklin and her husband Gary of Marshfield; brother, Douglas Franks, Jr. and his wife Arnie of New Hampshire; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; Douglas Sr. and Ruth (Holt) Franks, his siblings; Norman Franks, Ruby Smith, and William Franks. A memorial service will be held 11:00 am on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the Guare & Sons Funeral Home. The family will host a reception following the service at the Montpelier American Legion.
