Obituary

Marshfield, VT Robert Norman Chappelle, Sr, 97 of Hollister Hill Road, Marshfield, VT, died on February 15, 2018 at the Barre Gardens nursing and rehabilitation facility. He was born September 13, 1920 in Buffalo, NY. After graduating high school he attended and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from MIT. He subsequently attended and received a Masters degree in Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania. Robert (Bob) was a principal of Chappelle & Crothers, Architects in Philadelphia until his retirement in 1974. He later moved to Vermont where he spent much of his time and energy designing and building his home out of earth and other materials. He loved to travel and had the good fortune to visit many places around the world. He also had a passion for sailing, mostly in the Chesapeake Bay and occasionally in races on the Atlantic Ocean. Survivors include his two sons, Robert Chappelle, Jr. of Williamstown. VT and Jeffrey Chappelle of St. Davids, PA, his grandchildren, Jamie, David, Erik and Kira, and a care giver, Monique Gerbex of Wilcott, VT. There will be no memorial service. Arrangements are in the care of Guare & Sons Funeral Home.
