Rita McInerney, long time resident of Montpelier, VT passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025 in Virginia Beach, VA at the home of her brother, George Morissette after years of declining health.

Rita was born in Montpelier, VT on May 8, 1927, the daughter of Donat and Josephine (Fontaine) Morissette. After graduating from St. Michael's High School, she went to work for the Vermont Mutual Insurance Company in 1947 retiring in 1989 after 42 years of service.

On November 11, 1950, she married James McInerney where they made their home in Montpelier until his passing in 1998.

Rita enjoyed socializing with family and friends especially at her home. She was a generous host devoting her time and energy in making sure that everyone was taken care of. Throughout her life, she took great joy in being around people whether it be playing golf, volunteering at her church, visiting with neighbors, attending holiday parties or hosting afternoon poker games. She lived life to the fullest and will be sorely missed.

Rita is survived by her brother, George Morissette of Virginia Beach, VA of whom she made her home with during the final years of her life along with several nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great nieces and many wonderful friends especially her close and loyal friend, Carol Tilley. She was pre-deceased by her husband, James, her brothers, Romeo Morissette, Armand Morissette and her sister, Annette McHugh along with her sisters–in law, Bertha Morissette, Rita Morissette, Cecile Morissette and brother-in-law, Thomas McHugh.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11:00 am on Friday, October 10, 2025 at St. Augustine's church with interment to follow at the Berlin Corners Cemetery. Donations in Rita's memory may be made to the "Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org.
