Montpelier, VT
Richard A. Murtagh, 77, of Four Seasons Health Care in Northfield and formerly of Summer Street in Barre, died on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at the Central Vermont Medical Center.
He was born in Montpelier on May 8, 1935, the son of Albert P. and Majorie (Bedell) Murtagh.
He attended St. Michael's Grade School and graduated in 1954 from St. Michael's High School.
He worked as an usher and utility worker for Capital Theaters in Montpelier. Prior to that, he worked as a shoe salesman for Endicott Johnson Shoe Store in Montpelier and later in Barre.
Richard was an avid Red Sox and Boston Celtics fan. He enjoyed collecting coins and would look forward to smoking one cigar a day. He was a member of St. Augustine Church.
Survivors include his brothers, Edward J. Murtagh, Danville; David F. Murtagh, Montpelier; Stephen Murtagh, Barre Town; Andrew C. Murtagh, Williamstown; sisters, Sandra M. Hopkins Charlestown, NH and Susan J. Petty of Lexington, KY; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Garrold A. Murtagh.
There will be no calling hours. A Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at Guare & Sons Funeral Home. Committal prayers will follow at Berlin Corners Cemetery.
