Richard Francis Ferris died suddenly, February 21, 2020, at Woodridge Rehabilitation and Nursing in Berlin, VT. He was surrounded by his family.
Rich was born in Danbury, CT to Rosalie (Najjar) and N. George Ferris. He attended Western Connecticut College and soon after joined the Army and served at Los Alamos taking part in the nuclear research program there. After his time in the Army he moved back to the East Coast where he settled into a career as a computer systems engineer specializing in the implementation of medical systems. He worked for Massachusetts General Hospital, New England Life, Blue Cross Blue Shield of both Massachusetts and Vermont, and Central Vermont Medical Center.
Rich was a deeply spiritual man and studied for a time at the Vedanta Centre in Cohasset, MA under his guru Srimata Gayatri Devi. He remained dedicated to his spiritual practice meditating every morning until his passing.
Rich and Joyce Gaffey married in 1983 and had three children: Christopher, Jessie, and Nicholas Ferris (who died of Leukemia in 2006).
Memorial contributions in Rich's honor may be made to Camp Ta-Kum-Ta at www.takumta.org This is a camp for children living with cancer that his son Nicholas loved.
