Montpelier, VT Paul R. Hager, 80, of Freedom Drive, died on Friday, March 29, 2019 at the Central Vermont Medical Center. He was born on October 3, 1938 in Waukon, Iowa, the son of Robert and F. Marian (Raisty) Hager. He attended elementary school in Waukon and later graduated as the class Valedictorian from Waukon High Schools class of 1957. He then attended the University of Iowa, where he received his Bachelors degree in psychology 1961. It was there that he was a member of the National Honor Society, Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi. He also graduated with Highest Distinction. He then received his Masters degree in psychology from Yale University in 1965. Paul began working for the Vermont Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services in 1970. It was there that he worked in the Foster Care Program for the State of Vermont before retiring in 1997. After retirement, Paul found great joy in volunteering at the Barre Town School and the Barre Town Summer School Program. Survivors include his niece, Sarah Crone and her husband Leon and their children, Connor and Ava of Mechanicsburg, PA; niece, Laura Martino and her husband, Peter, and their children, Vincent and Angela of Clinton, NY, nephew, Peter Dohner and his wife Beth Ann and their children, Logan and Forrest of Dillsburg, PA; sister in law, Linda Hager of Dillsburg, PA; and a sister, Jean Hager of Waterloo, Iowa. He was predeceased by a brother, Roger Hager. Calling hours will be held from 6-8:00 pm on Tuesday, April 2nd at the Guare & Sons Funeral Home.
