Patricia Jean (Allen) Topping, 87, passed away at Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin, Vt., on November 27, 2015 with her family by her side.
Pat was born in Troy, N.Y., on March 7, 1928, the only daughter of Elmer and Marion (Schovers) Allen. She attended Catholic Central High School in Troy, graduating with the class of 1946.
She married the late Robert Topping of Amsterdam, N.Y., on April 23, 1949, and the couple settled in Littleton, N.H., where she was a homemaker and substitute teacher in the Littleton school system. After his retirement in 1988, Pat and Bob moved to St. Augustine, Fl., where she volunteered with the Sisters of St. Joseph as a tour guide at the Father O'Reilly House Museum. Pat and Bob shared and enjoyed 61 years of marriage together until his death in 2010. They had one daughter, Kathy Topping Wiese.
Pat remained active in community affairs throughout her life. She was a hospice volunteer while living in St. Augustine. In recent years, she was active at the Montpelier Senior Activity Center in Montpelier, Vt. She had a lifelong love for art, history, and travel. She especially enjoyed drawing, painting, walking, and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Topping Wiese, and her husband, Jim Wiese, of East Montpelier, Vt.; two grandchildren, Gail and Robert Wiese; and an aunt, Sister Marcia Allen of Latham, N.Y.
A Memorial Mass will be held 11:00 on Friday, December 18, 2015 at Saint Augustine Church in Montpelier, Vt.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Pat's memory to the charity of one's choice.
