Montpelier, VT Patricia (Pat) D. Seivwright died suddenly September 8, 2018. She was the daughter of Dale Donahue and Pearl Smith. She grew up in Montpelier with a brief period in St. Petersburg, Florida. After finishing high school in Montpelier, she attended Vermont College and the Fay School in Boston. As a young woman, she worked as a secretary in the law department of National Life. She volunteered her services generously working in the Montpelier Red Cross office, on the successful gubernatorial campaign of Dean Davis, Bethany Churchs soup kitchen and as a book repairer at the Kellogg Hubbard Library. She married Harry Seivwright in 1947 and spent fifty wonderful years together until his passing in 1997. They had a second house in Grand Isle built in 1972 and moved there full time in the early 1980s after Harrys retirement. Winters were spent enjoying Sanibel Island Florida. Their grandchildren all learned to swim there during vacation breaks. She returned to Montpelier after Harrys death and became a resident in the independent living section of Westview Meadows. Pat, as a young girl, developed a love for the outdoors from her father. She knew the names of many types of birds and trees. She valued the protection of our natural world and cherished all creatures great and small. She could be seen liberating ladybugs stuck on the wrong side of a window. Before Grand Isle, the family spent many years camping with friends at Groton State Forest as well as other sites in New England, New York and the maritime provinces. She joined Harry and the "Montpelier Navy" sailing off the southern New England coast. Pat had an artistic flair as shown in the many paintings she did throughout her life. She exhibited regularly at the Grand Isle Art Show and had pictures shown at UVMs Fleming Museum. Pat was an avid reader and remembers walking to the Kellogg Hubbard Library at the ripe age of five. Her belief in the importance of public libraries continued to be shown by her volunteer work there up until her death. She was well read and up on current events. She embraced new technology and would pull up the latest video of her new great granddaughter on her IPad or check out the latest trade on her favorite baseball team, the Red Sox. Her generous spirit was shown when she started following the Sox as a way to give a new Westview resident someone to share his excitement of the team. She became a close follower of the team from spring training to seasons end. For over seventy years she enjoyed playing bridge with her many friends. She was a very active woman into her nineties and could be seen walking in Montpelier or playing bocce. She was such an example of quiet caring and love for the people in her life. The lives of the people she touched are better for her presence. She will continue to be remembered for her gift to us. Survivors include her son, George Seivwright and his wife Maureen of Grand Isle; grandchildren, Joshua Seivwright of Jeffersonville, VT, Katherine Cole and her husband Ben of Bradford, and Carly Lagasse of Montpelier; and one great granddaughter, Wren Cole. A memorial service will be held 11:00 am on Friday, September 21, 2018 at the Bethany Church on Main Street in Montpelier.
