On a raw and windy November morning, Patricia Evans Meade decided one more winter in Vermont was too much. She left us peacefully, with her younger daughter at her side. Pat had been in Vermont for a little over 20 years, mostly in Montpelier, and more recently at Mansfield Place Assisted Living in Essex Jct, VT. She was surrounded by friends, and caring staff, and enjoyed her cigarettes, and wine to the end.
Patricia Evans Meade was born to Margaret and Arthur Evans on December 27, 1936. She was one of 6 children, and grew up in Dorchester, Massachusetts with a large, extended family.
She graduated from Girls Latin High School in Boston in the early 1950s, and went on to Nursing School at St. Elizabeths Hospital in Brighton. In 1961 she married Dr. Richard Hardaway Meade.
She was a voracious reader her entire life, with a particular love for poetry and history. She volunteered at the Boston Public Library during high school and instilled her love of books into all of her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her four children and their spouses: Elizabeth Martin Meade and Arturo Perez, Matthew Maury Meade and Alejandra Morales Meade, Sarah Frazier Boucher and Todd Boucher, and Richard Evans Meade and Elizabeth Harkins Meade, and eleven grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Jean Callahan and Marion Sullivan, numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were private. A memorial service will be held in Boston in the spring. Donations in Pats memory may be made to the Friends of the Benton Library, P.O. Box 425, Belmont, MA 02478.
