Obituary

**This memorial service has been moved to the Bethany Church on Main Street in Montpelier** Montpelier, VT Olive Romerio Franzi, 97, a lifetime Montpelier resident, passed away peacefully at the Gary Residence, on Tuesday, February 6, 2018. She was known and loved by many as "Zia". Olive was born on September 19, 1920, the daughter of Carlo and Elisa (Fornarelli) Romerio. She was proud of her Italian heritage and loved to share stories of her formative years growing up on Sibley Avenue. She was inquisitive, loved school, and graduated proudly when she attained Montpelier High Schools Silver M. Olive was a loyal employee with an exemplary work ethic. She began working at Jacksons Pharmacy while a junior in high school. After graduation she worked for the Montpelier Public School before joining Green Mountain Power Corporation in 1941. She retired from her position at Green Mountain Power in Burlington as Administrative Assistant to the President on May 1, 1986, after completing 45 years of dedicated service. Following her retirement, Olive enjoyed volunteering her time with the Vermont Historical Society, the Montpelier Food Pantry and the Central Vermont Medical Center. In 2004, she received the Central Vermont Council on Agings "Successful Aging Senior of the Year Award". In 2008, Governor Jim Douglas presented Olive with the Governors Outstanding Community Service Award. She was a member of the Bethany United Church of Christ, the Evening Club, the Women of Bethany, the Montpelier Emblem Club #369, the Vermont Historical Society, the Montpelier Historical Society, the Barre Historical Society, and forever held the TTM Club near and dear to her heart. Olive traveled to Las Vegas, Hawaii and Italy and enjoyed taking short bus trips with friends, but was happiest spending time with family and friends at camp on Peacham Pond in the beautiful mountains of Vermont, her home. She also especially liked attending chicken pie suppers in the fall. On May 21, 1949, she married Gino C. Franzi of Barre, VT. Her dear Gino passed away on January 2, 1961, but she remained devoted to him for the duration of her life. She was also predeceased by a brother, Libero Nicolino and his wife Pace (Cardini) Nicolino, a nephew, Ronald Nicolino, grandnephew Richard Nicolino, and great-grandnephew Thomas Dion. Though Olive did not have children, she was a warm, caring presence and "mother" to many. She leaves a nephew, Robert A. Nicolino and his partner Jane Senna of Barre; nieces, Elisabeth (Nicolino) and Armand Dion of Barre and Claudia (Nicolino) and Kenneth Fritjofson of Orange; great niece, Rhonna (Nicolino) Gable of Plainfield as well as many other great nieces and nephews, and dear friends of a variety of ages. Olive was bright, engaging, independent and spirited; but kindness and generosity were her greatest gifts to others. Olive meant so much to so many. She will be dearly missed by all who shared her light. Please honor our Zia Olive by doing an act of kindness of your choice. A memorial service will be held 11:00 am on Saturday, February 10th at the Bethany Church in Montpelier, with a reception to follow.
