Norman D. "Jerry" Roberts, 79 of Colonial Drive Montpelier, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness, March 23, 2014 with family at his side at the Central Vermont Hospital. Norman was born October 27, 1934, the son of Francis B. and Barbara Grace (Powers) Roberts of Manchester, New Hampshire. He attended schools in Manchester, NH. Joining the United Sates Coast Guard where he served overseas during the Korean War between 1952 and 1956.
Jerry married Elaine Plummer in Center Harbor, New Hampshire on June 8, 1957 and continued his education graduating from the University of New Hampshire in 1960.
Norman was actively employed as a claims adjuster/investigator for various insurance companies and as a licensed private investigator in both the public and private sector, including being President of Verity Research, Ltd. in Montpelier, and VP of C-R Associates, Inc. also in Montpelier. Jerry ended his lengthy career working for Vermont Mutual Insurance Company between 1985 and 1999 where he retired as the companys General Adjuster.
Norman was a member of the Aurora Lodge No. 22, F. & A.M. in Montpelier; American Legion Post No. 3; National Rifle Association; Capital Rifle and Pistol Club, Inc.; Life Member of Vermont State Rifle and Pistol Association; International Association of Arson Investigator; Past President, Vermont Insurance Fieldmans Association, and former Director Vermont Fire Service Training Council.
Jerry is survived by his wife Elaine of Montpelier; two sons, Kenneth Roberts and his wife Judith of Montpelier; Scott Roberts and his wife Susan, of Berlin, VT; three grandchildren, Katelyn, Allison and Spencer, and one great grandchild Cameryn; his sister Delores Haropulos of Manchester NH; three nieces Alexandra Haropulos, Laurel Bailey, Althea Haropulos and one nephew Jason Haropulos.
A Funeral service and Masonic Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 29th at Guare & Sons/Barber & Lanier Funeral Home in Montpelier. There will be no calling hours.
