Obituary

Montpelier, VT

Within the loving embrace of her family, at the age of 89, Myrna Mansfield Allshouse passed away on September 15th, 2023 at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, Vermont.

She was the beloved wife of the late Merle F. Allshouse, devoted mother of Frederick Scott (Debra) Allshouse and Kim (Thomas Devine) Allshouse, loving grandmother of Ashley Allshouse Gomozov, Zachary Allshouse, Brendan Devine, and Tristan Devine, and great-grandmother of Mila Gomozov. She was predeceased by her brother, John Mansfield, and sister, Marna Eppler. Myrna and her younger twin, Marna, were born in Mansfield, Ohio to Ila and Reverend Eugene Mansfield in April of 1934.

Myrna was an intellectually gifted student with a natural curiosity, optimistic nature, and eagerness to achieve. She obtained her bachelor's degree, with highest honors, from DePauw University in 1956. Like many women of her generation, Myrna taught school before having her first child in 1958. She was a strong feminist with an avid interest in politics who also devoted herself to raising her children. Myrna returned to work in a career as an insurance claims adjuster, first in New Jersey and later in Colorado. She and Merle moved to St. Petersburg, Florida in 1994. At that time, Myrna was able to dedicate herself to artistic endeavors, and she became a highly talented watercolor painter. She fondly recalled trips to Ireland, France, and the Czech Republic with art workshops where she explored new techniques and honed her skills.

Myrna moved to Westview Meadows in Montpelier, Vermont in 2021 to be closer to her children. She brought her talents and vision to Westview Meadows, inspiring her new friends to join her in painting the scenic Vermont landscapes. Myrna appreciated the beauty in life and always marveled at the quality of color, light, and form in the natural environment. She loved time with family and friends and took special delight in her grandchildren and great-grandchild. She was kind, thoughtful, and generous. She will be dearly missed.

A private family service will be held in Lakeside, Ohio, where Myrna and her late husband met.

Donations in memory of Myrna can be made to the Committee on Temporary Shelter (COTS) at cotsonline.org. or to St. Pete Free Clinic (SPFC) at stpetersburgfreeclinic.org.
