Montpelier, VT/ Pompano Beach, FL
Milo M. Nelson, 90, died at his home in Pompano Beach, Florida on April 27, 2021.
Milo was a well known businessman in Montpelier, where he operated the Nelson Brothers hardware store with his brothers, Kenneth and Carroll. He also built the Morrisville A&W, which operated seasonally for over 30 years until sold, just prior to his retirement. Milo loved spending time at his summer home on Lake Elmore and his home in Pompano Beach, Florida and was happiest being on the water.
Milo was born in Montpelier on September 17, 1930, the son of Meridan and Gladys (Burns) Nelson. He graduated from Montpelier High School in 1948. In 1952, he married Conchita Grijuela before being sent to Korea to serve his country for nearly two years. Upon returning, he and his brothers founded Nelson Brothers Inc., a major appliance and hardware store in 1955 from which he retired in 1988. Tragically, his wife Conchita passed away in a car accident that same year. In retirement, Milo spent his winters in Pompano Beach, FL where he met and later married Beverly (Lavalley) of Spencer, MA. in 1994.
He is survived by his second wife Beverly, brother Carroll Nelson, sister Marilyn (Susie) Langlois, and his three sons, Michael, Richard and Daniel, and four grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew him. Donations in his memory can be made to the Heart Association.
