Michael Charles McManis, age 81, passed away after a short illness at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington on August 13, 2017.
Michael was born in Northfield, VT on September 26, 1935, the son of the late Willard and Beatrice (Cooke) McManis. He grew up in Central Vermont and graduated from Spaulding High School in Barre in 1954.
He enlisted in the U. S. Navy and served 4 years active duty onboard the USS Taconic, AGC-7, as an engineman.
He then returned to Central Vermont and worked for Grand Union for 7 years, mostly in Morrisville.
He married Darlene Fisher. They were later divorced.
He went into the bar and restaurant business working for a number of establishments including the Wayside, Trapp Family Lodge, Charlmont, Soup-N-Greens, & Green Mountain Diner. He wintered for many years in Sarasota, Fl working for various restaurants and grocery stores. He enjoyed playing cards and bingo and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and Moose Lodge.
Survivors include siblings Patricia Huckins of Stuart, Fl, Willard McManis of Grove Pine, Ky, Roger McManis and his wife Charlene of Worcester, Vt and Rosalie McManis of New York, NY.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his significant other Stella Gomez, and siblings Janet Lane and David McManis.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on September 21, 2017 at the Veterans Cemetery in Randolph, Vt.
