Mary Babic Roberts, 99, formerly of 4 College Street, Montpelier, died on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at the Woodridge Nursing Home.
She was born on August 14, 1915, the daughter of Rudolph and Maria (Zaridich) Babic. She attended Montpelier Public Schools and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1933. Mary then worked for the Vermont Department of Unemployment. Mary choose her home and family as her most cherished occupation.
On May 3, 1947, she married Don Roberts in St. Augustine Church in Montpelier. Don predeceased her on July 2, 2013.
She was a member of St. Augustine's Catholic Church and the Montpelier Senior Citizen Center. Mary received a "War Service Certificate" as a Patriotic Volunteer for the State of Vermont. She was a founding member, along with Mona Johnson, of the Central Vermont Hospital's Benefit Shop. She volunteered as a ballot clerk at Montpelier City Hall and she belonged to several Bridge Clubs.
Survivors include her daughters: Jane Desilets and her husband, Bruce of East Longmeadow, MA; Patricia Pierce and husband Robert of Montpelier; three granddaughters, Karen Desilets, Christine Pelto and Karlyn Carrien; three grandsons, Robert Desilets, Daniel Desilets, and Brett Pierce; and 10 great grandchildren; Delani, Halle and Natalie Raina, Savanna Desilets, Payton and Dylan Pelto, Nolan and Logan Carrien and Michael and Frank Desilets. Mary has several nieces and nephews: Linda Witkowski, Carol Mangano, Karen Luchese, Louis Babic, Jr., John Babic and Thomas Ford.
She was predeceased by her brothers Louis Babic and Charles Babic and sisters Emma Ford, Molly Babic and Lydia Gage.
At Mary's request there will be no visiting hours. A Celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at the Guare & Sons Funeral Home.
