Montpelier, VT
Mary Bugbee Fullerton died on February 25, 2014 in Burlington, Vermont at FAHC of complications following surgery.
Mary was born May 20, 1923 to William and Esther Bugbee of Cornish, NH, the last of four children. Her brother, Charles, of Livingston, NJ, her sister Ruth of Windsor, VT, and her sister, Emily, of Green Bay, WI, predeceased her.
Mary married George Fullerton of Plainfield, New Hampshire in 1943 and they had two children, Michael and Patricia. The couple later divorced and Mary raised her two children herself. She worked at times as coordinator of the hot lunch program for the Hartland, VT school system, as manager of the kitchen at the Austine School for the Deaf in Brattleboro, VT, and as manager of the cafeteria at the Holstein-Frisian Association in Brattleboro. She later worked in the records department at the Brattleboro Retreat and eventually retired as switchboard operator at Marlboro College in Marlboro, VT.
After retirement, Mary moved from Brattleboro, VT to Marcellus, NY to be near her daughter Pat's family. In 2013, she returned to Vermont and lived in Montpelier near her son, Michael. She is survived by Michael and his wife Denise Wilder of North Calais, VT and daughter, Pat Weikart and her husband Al of Prescott, AZ. Mary's grandchildren are Jamie Fullerton and his wife Emily of Redmond, WA; Becky Fullerton and her husband Stu Woodham of Roslindale, MA; Chris Weikart of Prescott, AZ; and Jody Weikart of Cincinnati, OH. Great grandchildren of Mary are Aida and Nora Fullerton of Redmond, WA.
Mary loved nature and the outdoors and read extensively about cosmology, geology, English history and much else. She climbed mountains in her younger days and later enjoyed several visits to the Jackson, WY area where she made more lasting friends and also visited a number of National Parks. Mary was also an avid and loyal Red Sox fan and enjoyed auto racing. In her last days, she was very pleased to have lived long enough to see the Daytona 500 race won by her favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
At Mary's request she will be cremated. There will be no service or memorial other than a party planned for Jackson, WY later this year to celebrate her life.
