Martha Ann (Towle) Evans, 84, passed away at Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin on July 27, 2018.
Ann was born in Franklin, VT on March 9, 1934 to Hugh Miller Towle and Martha Margaret (Hanna) Towle.
She attended and graduated from elementary school in Franklin, VT and from Franklin High School, class of 1951. After serving as a housekeeper for a family in Enosburgh Falls, she attended the Mary Fletcher School of Radiology, graduating in 1955. She worked as an X-Ray technician at Kerbs Hospital (now the Northwest Medical Center) in St. Albans until moving to Waterbury in 1958. She later worked at the Chest Clinic in Barre assisting in a study of silicosis in granite industry workers.
Ann married Frank C. Evans in Franklin on September 3, 1955. They moved to Waterbury in May of 1958 when Frank started work for the Vermont Highway Department. They raised four daughters in Waterbury and Moretown and built a house in East Montpelier where they are currently living.
Ann was devoted to her role as a home-maker and mother to her four daughters. She was an excellent seamstress and made clothing, coats and quilts for the entire family. She was also an enthusiastic gardener, raising vegetables in Moretown and always keeping a number of flower gardens.
Ann was active in her community serving as a school director in Moretown for a number of years, and running for the legislature (once).
As a survivor of breast cancer, for several years Ann acted as a Reach-to-Recovery volunteer, helping others in their recovery from breast cancer.
She is survived by husband, Frank of East Montpelier; four daughters, Eleanor Marsh and her husband, Peter of Williston, VT; Martha Evans-Mongeon and her husband, Brian of Waterbury Center, VT; Jennifer Evans of Middlesex, VT; and Catherine Deyo and her husband, Brian of Montpelier; five grandchildren, Megan Marsh; Christopher Marsh and his wife, Christine (Trombley); Jeffrey Evans-Mongeon; Martha Ann Evans-Mongeon; and Katie Deyo as well as a number of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a sister, Mary (Towle) Gates of Franklin, VT and her very best friend, Catherine Scribner.
She was pre-deceased by her parents and her brother, James Guy Towle.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 4th, at Middlesex United Methodist Church. A reception will follow the service and burial will be in Hope Cemetery in Waterbury.

The family would like to commend the Woodridge Nursing Home staff for the loving and compassionate care they provided for Ann. They went the extra mile to make her stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible.
