Obituary

Marion A. McKenna, 97 of Montpelier, passed away peacefully at home on January 8, 2013 with her family at her side. She was born August 31, 1915 at Heaton Hospital in Montpelier, the daughter of Charles F. McKenna (former Postmaster of Montpelier) and Agnes (Lyons) McKenna. Marion graduated from St Michael's High School in 1934 and Stamford Hospital School of Nursing (CT) in 1939 with a degree in nursing. She entered the U.S. Navy Nursing Corps in World War II (1943) and retired as a Lieutenant after serving at the U.S. Naval Hospital, Aiea Heights, Pearl Harbor; U.S.N Disp., Ford Island , T.H., Pearl Harbor; U.S.N.H, Bremerton, WA; U.S.N.H. , Brooklyn, NY ; R/S Tampa , Florida; U.S.N.H., Chelsea, MA; Portsmouth and Manchester, NH and White River Junction, VT. She retired from the Veterans Administration with over 30 years of service. After retiring, she returned to the family home in Montpelier. Survivors include five nephews and two nieces among other distant relatives. She was predeceased by her parents, her twin brother Merrill (Bud), brother Charles, and sisters Doris and Marilla. Marion was a life member of the Post and Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post 792, Montpelier. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 25th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Augustine's Catholic Cemetery on Lincoln Ave., Montpelier, with full military honors by delegates from the Vermont Army National Guard and the VFW Post 792 color guard. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be sent to St. Augustine's Catholic Church, 16 Barre Street, Montpelier, VT 05602.
