Marion Jean (Washburn) Codling passed away peacefully on November 5, 2013. She was born in Washington, Vermont on July 18, 1924.
Marion was involved in clubs and organizations throughout her life. Some of them are: The Old Brick Church Club where she was a Sunday School teacher and worked on many fund raising activities; the Green Mountain Club (she and son Ronald had hiked the Long Trail end-to-end), the Eastern Star, WAVES National and Four Corners Schoolhouse Association.
She proudly served in the U.S. Naval Reserve (WAVES) from 1944-1946.
She retired from the Vermont Department of Liquor Control in 1988 following 27 years of employment. Prior to that, she worked for Vermont Civil Defense Department and the Vermont Motor Vehicle Department.
Marion was married to Charles W. Codling, Jr. (Gogo) on November 24, 1954, and became a farmer's wife. She worked with her husband running the family farm, raised her family, and always supporting her children in all their activities.
Marion spent her time keeping in touch with her many relatives and friends all around the country. She would select and handwrite cards and personal notes for each person or occasion.
She greatly enjoyed following the Red Sox all her life and, since retirement, would watch and keep track of all the games and statistics. We are happy she got to see them win three World Series!
Marion is survived by her sisters: Muriel R. Bianchi of Montpelier, VT, Doris E. Washburn of East Montpelier, VT and sister-in-law Edith Washburn of Jacksonville, VT; children: Richard W. Codling and his wife Joanne of S. Burlington, VT, Jeannie A. Simpson and her husband Leonard, of Kuna, ID, Ronald C. Codling and his wife Christine of Barre, VT; grandchildren: Sean M. and Scott L. Simpson of Kuna, ID and Carolyn, Charles R. and Erik W. Codling of Barre, VT. She has many nephews, nieces, grandnieces and grandnephews.
