Marie Van Hooser Goulet, age 87, died on July 21, 2007, at Central Vermont Hospital. She was born on March 22, 1920, in Taylorville, Illinois, the daughter of Dwight Cicero and Rose (Klassen) Van Hooser. Her parents moved to Chicago in 1928, where she attended the public schools, graduating from Carl Schurz High School. She attended Northwestern University. She was employed by the Chicago branch of the Bank of Montreal until her marriage to Lucien J. Goulet on November 10, 1945.
They made their home in Montpelier where she assisted her husband in operating his business, The Twin City Radio-TV Service, until he retired in 1986. She was a member of Saint Augustine Catholic Church.
She volunteered her services over the years to the Saint Vincent de Paul Society, Central Vermont Hospital, and, most recently, to the Chemo Caps Project.
She was predeceased by her husband, who died on January 18, 2000, and by her only sister, Clara Schoeps of Chicago.
She is survived by her children: Clara Rose (Goulet) DiBona, Hayward, California; Carol (Goulet) Hughes, Salt Lake City, Utah; Mary Lou Goulet, North Springfield, Vermont; Suzanne (Goulet) Amidon, Concord, New Hampshire; Lucien J. Goulet, Jr., Sunnyvale, California; and Catherine (Goulet) Freehling, Oaklyn, New Jersey. She is also survived by seven grandsons: Eric LaValley, Christopher LaValley, Jason LaValley, Ry Amidon, Michael Amidon, Michael DiBona, and Jay Freehling; one granddaughter, Rachel Freehling; two great-grandsons: Christian LaValley and Zachary LaValley; and nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 4-7:00 p.m. at Guare & Sons Funeral Home, 30 School Street, Montpelier.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. from Saint Augustine Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center.
